School of Midwifery
The Midwifery is a health care profession in which providers offer care to childbearing women during pregnancy, labour and birth, and during the postpartum period. They also help care for the newborn and assist the mother with breastfeeding.
Goals and Objectives
- Develop higher level competencies of a midwife as a health care provider: educator, researcher, supervisor and health care facility manager/entrepreneur. In addition, they should be able to:
- Provide the necessary supervision, care and advise to woman with a high-risk pregnancy in the absence of a specialist.
- Correctly interpret diagnostic examinations related to midwifery care and act accordingly.
- Execute life-saving obstetrical management during emergency cases.
- Assist in a caesarian section procedure as a scrub/circulating assistant.
- Provide post caesarian section care.
- Provide basic and comprehensive family planning services.
- Administer appropriate drugs according to proper protocol.
- Manage s Midwifery Educational Program and Reproductive Health Care Facility/Program.
- Conduct classes in Midwifery courses.
- Prepare a project/research proposal.

Consists of 70 units of general education, core and professional courses. This includes a total of 1,071 hours of Clinical Practicum.
